No Sleep Till Loch Ness

Waking up this morning it was still absolutely freezing outside. It pretty much rained all night long, so we were glad to see that it was only 3 degrees outside and not 3 degrees and raining...

With things looking up we headed to the train station and saw this...

Yes that's right we continue to have awesome luck with trains. Apparently there was a landslide last week and we would have to take a bus from somewhere called Aviemore to Inverness. Yippee!

So we hopped on the train and Mom was stoked to see the countryside...

It's beautiful, but did I mention it's freaking cold...

Despite the cold though, you have to stop and appreciate it all, it's just gorgeous here...

Right Dad. Dad? Hellooooo...

We got to Aviemore and hopped on the bus and actually made it to Inverness with plenty of time to catch our boat to Loch Ness. insert gay joke here...

We tried to brave it outside as long as we could...

Mom and Dad were blown away by the Loch...

And can you blame them...

It's just a place that forces you to slow down a little and take in the beauty around you...

This is Urquhart Castle, hi it's really old...

And still freakin cold...

I'm the Queen of the World! Shut it, you try and think of something witty...

It's been a blast getting to spend time with the folks...

They are having a blast too...

So much so they wound up in the pokey...

And I clearly over did it cuz on the ride home, this happened...

Welp, what are you gonna do. After we got back to the hotel and relaxed for a while, we walked around Inverness for a bit...

That is the river Ness, which runs through the whole city...

And then we headed off to grab a bite...

And a drink of course. Dad got steak with haggis, uhm yeah no, while Mom and I had Highland Scottish Beef, mmmm...

Its an early night because we are heading up to the Isle of Skye in the morning...

Night night!

Remember That Time We Froze to Death in Scotland?

So after we relaxed a little and warmed up we decided to go grab a bite to eat. We decided to check out the Whiski Bar for some traditional Scottish grub...

And what pub going experience doesn't include a good pint...

Or two...

Mom and Dad had bangers and mash...

While I had Steak and Ale pie...

Holy crap it was delicious!! Once we were full we headed up the Royal Mile to St. Giles Cathedral where I had booked us on a haunted night tour to the Underground City of the Dead...

Our tour guide Katie, was a true local from Edinburgh...

And then the best thing happened, and by best, I mean the worst thing that could happen on a walking tour when it's 40 degrees out...

It started raining...

Whomp whomp. It totally sucked being in the rain and freezing your ass off, especially when you are walking through a hilly muddy cemetery that Katie told us was actually not hilly at all but rather thousands and thousands of skeletons piled on top of each other that they covered in grass. Charming!

And yes it was creepy...

And of course one of the stories was about Burke and Hare, the notorious body snatchers of Edinburgh. Hi we're descended from criminals...

That sounds about right. Then we went in here...

Inside this gate, this gate that they locked behind us behind, was where 1200 people were slaughtered. Again, way to bring on the charm Katie! The tour ended inside another cell where it is supposed to hold the Mackenzie poltergeist. Yeah it was super creepy here and then this awesome thing happened. The tour ended when someone random jumped out of nowhere and scared the crap out of all of us, and of course I was right by the door so I got the brunt of it. I promise though, my scream was super manly!! Or not, shut up, you don't know!

We just swam home in the pouring rain and need to down 7 buckets of tea and go to bed. We are up early to head up to Inverness to go to Loch Ness. Gooooood night!

Wherefore Art Thou Sunshine

We took our time getting up this morning. It was so nice to sleep in beds for the first time in a few days. We made a nice healthy breakfast in our little flat...

Top o the Mornin to you...

Cheerio! And by healthy I meant not...

After breakfast we went out to do a little shopping and sightseeing. Uhm, holy hell it was freezing outside!! Where's the Whisky?

Then we walked back up the Royal Mile to check out Edinburgh Castle...

Did I mention it was still freezing out...

We got the guided audio tour, not because I really give a crap about history all that much, but they were handy ear warmers...

But I think they confused Mom and Dad a little...

Oh and as an added bonus there was a 400mph wind at the top of the hill, good times...

I'm assuming it was beautiful, but my eyes froze over a long time before that...

We decided to stop and grab some tea at the castle to stay warm...

Yeah that's right we're fancy in case you forgot...

After tea we went back to Siberia aka the rest of the tour...

The view was pretty amazing...

Ooh look behind the scenes Keith...

We are still having a great time, despite the freezy-ness...

We just finished up the tour...

So we are going to head back to the apartment to relax a bit before we have dinner and drink...

Then after dinner it is off to do a Haunted Tour of the Underground City of the Dead in Edinburgh. Peace out!
