Oooh We Be Fancy Now

After relaxing for a few hours we got dolled up in our Sunday finest because I booked one nice dinner in each city. I'd read a lot about this restaurant called Castle Terrace and how amazing it was supposed to be...

We decided to walk there and since we had walked along the Royal Mile all day, I thought we would take Holyrood Road, the lower road that heads towards the castle. It being Saturday night, the pubs were all pretty packed, a point the parentals made as they joke how a lot of things revolve around drinking here. Welcome to Scotland!

Mom was not so much a fan of this road with all the pubs frequented by the younger crowd. She said we should walk the Royal Mile home after dinner because she has seen all she needs to see of "Hooligan Mile".

We got to the restaurant after getting a little lost and it was even fancier than I had thought it was going to be. I wasn't sure they were going to let us ruffians in...

They collected our coats when we got there (Mom was worried that someone might steal our coats all night) and sat us right away. Now I'm usually all for taking pictures everywhere, but this place was freaking fancy and I was a little worried that if we busted out the camera to do bits they were gonna chuck us out.

Luckily the restaurant has pictures online of some of the stuff we had. First they brought out some canapés to start...

Dad had heard the server say they were canapés. I heard that too, but couldn't hear what they were because of the gaggle of drunk Scottish women nearby. Mom was too far away so had no idea what was on the plate. She thought it was fake food, like mini samples of entrees we could order. Turns out it was a mini margarita pizza, the black thing was a monkfish ravioli and the green boob sort of thing was a deconstructed caesar salad. OMG they were amazing!

Next they brought out an amuse bouche, which sort of looked like a dirt cup at first...

Again it was too noisy so we had no idea what it was, we thought maybe they sent it to the wrong table, so of course we inhaled it so they couldn't take it away from us. It was some sort of carrot purée with cumin, soooo good.

Mom and I both had herb and creme fraiche ravioli in tomato broth for our starters...

For dinner I had the Scottish beef. Mom was kinda grossed out because it came with Ox Tongue...

So Mom opted for the chicken and Dad got the pork. I have to say it was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Just incredibly delicious food. After dinner we decided to cab it back to avoid all the drunken hooligans. That's all for now, off to pass out in our first beds in the UK!
